At WWDC 2024 Apple unveiled new era AI capabilities named as “Apple Intelligence” which will act as a cornerstone of a new wave of Apple devices starting from iPhones, Macs, and other gadgets. It is considered a big step in AR and AI for the company, which is often considered slow and conservative in the development of such technologies.
The major release of Apple’s new OS, iOS 5, was introduced by the company’s CEO, Tim Cook, and the key feature announced by him was a new and much chattier Siri. A new feature came with the name ‘onscreen awareness,’ and it means Siri will now work with context in a manner that allows users to switch between several apps with ease. Whether the task is related to the sending of notification messages, creating summaries of the received emails, or even the writing of new messages, Siri’s Fleshing out of functionalities are expected to present the users with a smarter interface. Another feature that makes it flexible is the fact that while previously you could only type to Siri you are now able to type your questions and inquiries.

Privacy and Security:
- Apple emphasized strong privacy measures, with most AI processing happening on-device.
- Complex requests are handled through "Private Cloud Compute," ensuring data security.
- Independent experts will be able to inspect Apple's server code for privacy verification.
Integration with OpenAI:
- ChatGPT (GPT-4o): Siri can now leverage ChatGPT for handling complex requests, with user permission required before sending data to OpenAI.
- ChatGPT will also be available in systemwide AI writing tools and can generate images.
- OpenAI will not store user requests, and user data will be protected.
Availability:
- The AI features will roll out in Fall 2024 with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.
