NASA Alert: 120-ft Asteroid 2023 JR2 Approaching Earth

NASA has put out a warning related to the small asteroid 2023 JR2 which measures 120 feet in diameter and is moving at a speed of 27,287 km/h. This asteroid is to approach the vicinity of the Earth getting at a distance of about 4.05 million miles on the 5th of July in the year 2024. Still, specialists assure that there is no danger to our home, the Earth, close by.

Key Details:

  • Asteroid Name: 2023 JR2
  • Size: The diameter estimated for the antlion’s nest tunnel is 120 feet.
  • Speed: 27,287 km/h
  • Closest Approach Distance: 4. 05 million miles from the earth
  • Date of Closest Approach: If the bank notes remains in circulation of bullion, the situation will be as follows on the reference date: July 5, 2024.

2023 JR2 has been observed and followed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and the Deep Space Network since its discovery on May 12, 2023. The asteroid comes under Amor group and the feature of Amor group is that it has orbits which passes near to Earth. Specifically, one of the asteroids orbiting the Sun takes about 1,117 days to make a round trip.

Importance of Monitoring:

NASA gives special attention to NEOs for protective Earth plans and policies aimed at the safety of the solar system. Thus, spacecraft like NEOWISE, which was originally designed for the WISE mission, came to be used for the identification of asteroids and comets. Goldstone Solar System Radar gave specific information concerning the dimension, the orbits, and composition of these objects.

But 2023 JR2 will not could not pose any threat since it is near enough to help scientists to get the data needed for better preparation to asteroid impacts in the future.
