Bharuch Reports First Suspected Death from Chandipura Virus

Bharuch District has informed the first possibly CHPV death after possible cases increased in the region. A 4 years boy from the village Khareta of Netrang taluka breathed his last due to the disease at GMERS Medical college at Vadodara on July 28. The child, who was suffering from high fever, convulsions, and had changed the level of consciousness, was first taken to the community health center then to Rajpipla Civil Hospital and finally shifted to GMERS.

For confirmation of the boy’s blood report, the sample has been tested at the National Institute of Virology, Pune and Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre, Gandhinagar. Earlier, Real time RT PCR tests for two other minors of Ghanikhut village also showed negative for the virus suspected as CHPV. Thus, the results of the remaining samples are still unknown.

To curb the outbreak, health personnel from the local-authorities have cleaning exercise in Khareta and Ghanikhut villages, and an awareness crusade to enlighten the community about the virus. The district health officer, Dr. J. S. Dhulera of Bharuch also stressed on reporting such signs such as high-grade fever and convulsions early enough to avert other incidents.

Bharuch collector Dr. Tushar Sumera has sought entomologist of Bharuch Agriculture University to make them visit such zones and consider chances of viruses having sources there.

According to the circumstances, sanitary-medicine authorities demand the population keep watch and inform local sanitary areas about possible cases as soon as possible.
