Germany Accuses China of Cyberattack on Federal Cartography Agency

In one of the recent incidents Germany has blamed China for fomenting a complex cyber attack on one of its federal agencies involved in cartography. The German intelligence counterclaimed the 2021 cyber attack was orchestrated by Chinese state actors primarily for espionage since they targeted sensible information associated with espionage. Consequently, the Chinese ambassador was summoned to Berlin by the German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser who demanded an immediate stop to such activities as well as dubbed the violation as a severe threat to the security of the country.

Faeser pointed to China, Russia, and Iran as cyber threats where the minister stated that never before have there been so many cyber threats. She stressed the importance of raising the level of protection of vital facilities and other classified information against such cyber attacks of state-sponsored nature.

China has slammed the accusations as baseless with some referring to the act as a political maneuver by Germany. The Chinese embassy in Germany has demanded a stop to what it terms political plot against China and what it also terms smear campaign on the Chinese through social media, targeting cyber intrusion to China.

This has now followed a common trajectory of other allegations that China has also been involved in cyber espionage activities with other countries such as the United States, United Kingdom and Canada included. International situation is further complicated by the growing threats coming from states and their sponsored hackers which leads to deterioration of diplomatic relations as well as focus on cyberspace.
